Executive Profile
Darim president and founder Reo Kim has harnessed an extensive network of global resources to bring success to his company. From his early work with a military research institute in his home country of Korea to his role as project manager meeting the exacting standards of a joint development initiative between the Korean and Russian governments, he has continued to explore new technologies while forging lasting relationship with a widening circle of scientist-colleagues.

Reo earned a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1985. He later spent a year in the United States, doing post-doctoral studies in the mechanical engineering department at UC Berkeley. In 1990, he decided to return to Korea to build a company. Inviting his Russian associates to join him in the new venture, he secured initial funding from the Daewoo Group. A research arm was established in Tomsk, Russia, where Reo and a team of digital video technicians and software engineers developed Darim’s first products, based on a core technology of MPEG compression and streaming. The manufacturing operation was set up in Daejon, Korea, and in 1996 sales and marketing moved to California, in the U.S. Subsequent investors include such luminaries as Samsung and Hyundai.
